How to look after your oak bathroom vanity units with Ceramic or Natural Stone

All of our oak bathroom units are coated in a satin lacquer which if regularly waxed will ensure that water does not penetrate the lacquer and damage the oak bathroom vanity units finish.

We strongly recommend that all the oak bathroom vanity tops that have bowls sitting on them are coated with a clear satin yacht varnish. This will ensure that the oak and lacquer finish remains protected and will look as good as new for the lifetime of the item. It is always recommended to wipe dry the oak worktop and not let water settle on it.

Stone Colours and Appearance

Granite, Marble and Travertine natural stone has taken millions of years to form, with this in mind please remember each piece is unique and will vary in colour, texture and marking. Marble and Travertine will show "veins" in varing concentrations and colour where Granite will show small flecks from minerals. This is not deemed as a fault but part of natures beauty.

Granite, Marble, and Travertine is quarried worldwide in a variety of colours and compositions and generally fall into two categories, siliceous or calcareous stone.

Granite is a siliceous stone where Travertine and Marble are calcareous it is essential to know this difference when it comes to cleaning and caring for your bathroom unit top and bowl.

The following guide is essential to maintain the life a beauty of you bathroom unit:

Although we think of natural stone as a hard material it is in fact porous so to prevent stains from being absorbed sealing stone with a quality impregnating sealer will prevent most spills from damaging it, this has the added bonus of enhancing the appearence of the stone.

Proper cleaning will help the sealer last longer and keep stone protected without damaging the stone’s natural beauty.

Clean natural stone on a regular basis with warm water and a clean, non-abrasive cloth. Do not use general purpose cleaners or you may damage the stone or the sealer applied. Do not use products that contain lemon, vinegar or other acids as these may etch the stone surface and damage the polish. Do not use scouring powders or creams; these products contain abrasives that may scratch the surface.

Please be aware that all oak units when used as bathroom vanity units that have a drawer directly underneath where the bowl or bowls are to be plumbed in will render the drawer or drawers redundant due to pipework, we do not pre drill these units for any pipework, this will need to be carried out by a plumber.
